The next International Clan Gathering will be at the Loughshore Hotel, Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland from 10th to 13th August 2017.Carrickfergus (from Irish: Carraig Fhearghais, meaning "rock of Fergus"), known locally and colloquially as "Carrick", is a large town in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is located on the north shore of Belfast Lough, 11 miles (18 km) from Belfast. The town had a population of 27,903 at the 2011 Census and takes its name from Fergus Mór mac Eirc, the 6th-century king of Dál Riata. It is County Antrim's oldest town and one of the oldest settlements in Ireland as a whole. Carrickfergus was the administrative centre for Carrickfergus Borough Council, before this was amalgamated into the Mid and East Antrim District Council in 2015, and forms part of the Belfast Metropolitan Area. It is also a townland of 65 acres, a civil parish and a barony.After the huge success of the 2011 Carnlough gathering the Clan MacAulay Association International Gathering shall once more return to Northern Ireland in 2017.County Antrim’s Belfast Loughshore Hotel, Carrickfergus has been confirmed as the venue. The event shall run from Thursday 10th - Sunday 13th August, 2017 (three nights) and will include a clan banquet, clan ceilidh and tours to McAuley places of interest along the stunning Antrim coast. The Clan MacAulay extends a worldwide invitation to all MacAulays (including the many variant name spellings such as McAuley, McCauley, Macauley, Macaulay, MaCawley…) to come to meet with them in this special event in the promotion and spirit of kinship. There has been overwhelming interest from all round the world to next years gathering, so much so that the Carrickfergus Loughshore Hotel is already fully booked with over one hundred MacAulays (of all various spellings…to date McAuley/McAulay/McCauley/McCaulley/Macauley/Macaulay and McCawley are represented).
However, for those potential gatherers who wish to come and have not yet booked, do not be put off as there are a number of nearby hotels, B&B’s and Self Catering accommodations still available, many within walking distance or a two minute taxi ride…
